In 1863, Fulwood became a local government authority with the formation of a Local Board of Health. In 1895, the Urban District Council came into being and in 1958, Fulwood was granted a coat of arms. The gold crown is appropriate for a military station and the two stags relate to when Fulwood was a hunting forest. The tree also relates to the days when Fulwood was a forest, however, it is shown uprooted as the forest is gone!
